ReconInsight has partnered with CANA Advisors to develop a solution for the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) to monitor and analyze the use and current state of outdoor recreation areas. CANA Advisors and CMC created the CMC Recreation Impact Monitoring Systems (RIMS) mobile app. The CMC RIMS App recently won the 2020 Public Lands Alliance (PLA) Innovative Product Award.

The CMC RIMS App allows trained volunteers to gather information about campsites, trail conditions, activity levels, and visitor use levels. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see a video by CMC about the app.

Ri360 is integrated with the mobile app’s NoSQL database. Ri360’s complete data pipeline manages the data and presents it for analysis in dashboards and reports. This empowers land managers to understand the impact of recreation on their geographical areas. CMC employees create their own Ri360 dashboards for information presentation and analysis.

We plan to share more about this story in future blog posts on sustainability, mobile apps, and the powers of statistical modelling with data analytics!

If you live in Colorado, consider downloading the CMC RIMS mobile app so you can help local land managers collect important data on trails, campsites, and visitor use. Note: You must complete a brief, 20 minute training course to get access to full monitoring capabilities in the app.
